Woodrow Arthur Potesta

December 17, 1919 — July 17, 2012

Woodrow A. Potesta of Ices Ferry Drive, Morgantown died at his home on Tuesday July 17, 2012. He was born December 17, 1919 in Fairmont, son of the late Valentino and Felorina Potesta. He graduated from East Fairmont High School in June of 1937 and then attended Fairmont State College for two years and went on to graduate from WVU in June of 1941 with a degree in Business and Economics. After graduating he worked at National Carbon Co. in Clarksburg as a cost accountant until he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp in October of 1943. He received his commission as a 2 nd Lieutenant and his wings on Feb. 8, 1944. He served as a navigation instructor at Hondo Army Air Force Base in Texas until he was honorably discharged in December of 1945. He was in the reserves after his discharge for 26 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After his discharge from the Air Force he attended WVU Law School and graduated in June of 1948. He was a professor of accounting at Fairmont State College for 27 years and also taught at WVU College of Law for 16 years, retiring in 1975. During this period he practiced law in Fairmont for 55 years. He is survived by his wife of 20 years Joyce Potesta; two daughters Cynthia Keane of North Potomac, MD, Karen Potesta of Charleston, WV and one granddaughter Meghan V. Keane of Washington, DC; sister Rosina Potesta of Morgantown; two nieces, Leyna Gabriele of New York City, Betty Grove and husband Benjamin of Marietta, GA; three nephews Eugene Potesta and wife Shirley of Columbiana, OH, Edward Potesta of Worthington, WV and Paul Potesta and wife Bonnie of Merion, PA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Gabriele and two brothers Henry Potesta and Harry Red' Potesta and niece Doris Hallie of Connecticut.
