William A Sack

William Arthur Sack was welcomed home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2024. Bill was a beacon of faith and wisdom to all who knew him. His 89 years were marked by an unwavering commitment to his Lord and Savior, his family, and his church.

Bill was born on August 8, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Edgar A. and Margaret Valentine Sack. He was a man whose early days set the stage for a life of achievement and service. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edgar A. Sack. His legacy continues through his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Elizabeth Sack, and his children Roger (Sara) Sack, Karen (Dennis) Francis, his grandchildren, Lacia, David, Rachael (Nick), Morgan (Cole), Savanna, and Eliana, and seven great grandchildren.

Bill’s pursuit of education led him to earn a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1957. He then completed a Masters and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. His dedication to his country was evident as he served in the US Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963.

Bill’s professional journey was marked by a significant transition from being an engineer at Dow Chemical from 1964-1967 to an educator when he moved back to Morgantown in 1967. He inspired a generation of students as a professor at West Virginia University, sharing not only his extensive knowledge but also his values of diligence and integrity until his retirement on January 1, 1998.

Word of Life Fellowship played a pivotal role in Bill’s life. His mission trips to Panama, Mexico, Venezuela, Romania, and France reflected his deepest calling —to share the Gospel and live for the Glory of God. Bill was a faith-filled servant leader, pouring his heart into each community he visited, and leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.

Bill was a man of great intellect but even greater humility. His selfless nature meant he often put others before himself, offering wisdom and support wherever it was needed. On Sundays, one could find Bill within the embrace of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, teaching, learning, and living the words he believed so deeply. Those who knew him were touched by his kindness, sharp intellect, and generous spirit. Bill’s departure leaves a void that is filled with stories of his warmth, undying faith, and devotion to his family.

As we say farewell to Bill, his memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Bill’s life was a testament to the power of love and faith. Although he will be dearly missed, we are consoled by the assurance that his journey here was a life well lived, as he touched many lives for Christ.

Family and friends will gather together at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 308 Elmhurst Street, Morgantown, WV on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 11AM until the service begins at noon. Pastor Roy Baker and Pastor Will Coulson will be officiating. A private interment with the family will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful care and compassion from the Mon General Hospital throughout his brief illness.
