William Howard Smith

William Howard ‘Howie’ Smith, 46 of the Hagan’s Community, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at WVU Hospital. Howard fought courageously against glioblastoma cancer for more than 19 months. Howard was born in Fairmont, WV on September 23, 1970, son to Dora West Smith of Hagans and the late Robert Allen Smith.

Howard loved the outdoors. He and his brother would take annual fishing and hunting trips to Elkins and Glady. Howard also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and always looked forward to Mountainfest, poker runs and rallies.

In addition to his mother, Howard is survived by his wife of nearly 27 years, Jennifer Hooton Smith; two, brothers, James ‘Jamie’ Smith and wife Mecca, Michael Smith and wife Charlotte; sister-in-law, Cyndee Hooton all of the Hagan’s Community. Also surviving, are his nieces, nephews, close cousin, Lori Henry of Wheeling, WV; extended family, Jennifer Pena and husband Gorgonio, Bibianna Pena, Gorgonio Pena II, Jessica Smith all of Kemp, TX and his beloved canine companions.

In addition to his father, Howard, was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Smith.

Friends may join the family at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8pm and again on Tuesday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Pastor Isaac Harmon officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.

Donations can be made to the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home to help with expenses.

Howard’s family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and aides, who contributed to his care during this journey at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer center and the WVU Medicine Ruby Hospital.
