Willard R. 'Zeke' Mayhew

August 3, 1926 — May 16, 2016

Willard Russell ‘Zeke’ Mayhew, of Morgantown, passed away on Monday May 16, 2016 three months shy of his 90th birthday. He passed peacefully at the WV Veterans Nursing Facility, in Clarksburg. Zeke was born August 3, 1926 in Cassville, son to the late James C. and Mildred Mayfield Mayhew. He attended Cassville School as a child.

Zeke was drafted by the US Army near the end of World War II. Zeke retired from Osage No. 3 mine after 42 years of service in the coal industry.

Zeke never knew a stranger. During his retirement, Zeke could often be found hanging out with this friends at Hardees or driving the countryside with family. He enjoyed Hee-Haw and Lawrence Welk.

He is survived by his children, Jim, Randy, Frank, Becky and Ruth all of Morgantown; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother Bill Mayhew.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Janet Gibson Mayhew, one daughter Mary Matthews and five siblings.

Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 4pm until 8pm and again on Thursday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Rev. James Sabin officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hills Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of the WV Veteran’s Nursing Facility and Amedysis Hospice of Anmoore, WV for the care and concern shown to Zeke over the past several months.
