Wilbert Lee ‘Lum’ Poling, Sr., died May 12, 2016 at Mon General Hospital surrounded by his family at the age of 85. Wilbert was born in Morgantown on April 1, 1931, son to the late Walter James and Minnie Feathers Poling.
Wilbert worked as a bus driver for the city of Morgantown, Andy Morris Enterprises as a builder and most recently as a driver for the Morgantown Auto Auction. He was truly a jack of all trades. Wilbert loved to play cards with special friends, Sue Aronhalt, Belinda Shisler and the late Harry Aronhalt. He loved the annual 4th of July picnic with family and friends and also loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Mt. Morris Sportsman’s Club.Wilbert is survived by five children, son Wilbert L. ‘Skip’ Poling, Jr. and wife Sherry; daughter, Cathy Poling Ables and husband Carl all of Morgantown; son David Allen Poling and wife Arlene of La Barge, WY; daughter Sandra Poling Abersold and husband John; daughter Lillie Poling Finniss and husband Wayne all of Fairmont; nine grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Also surviving his faithful dog Baby Foxy, who rarely left his side. In addition to his parents, Wilbert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Thelma May Kelley Poling; three siblings, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Henderson, James ‘Sam’ Poling, JoAnn Bryan and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Fitzgerald Poling.Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 2pm until 6pm and again on Monday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Pastor John Abersold officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery.
