Wilbert F Murray

May 12, 1959 — Sep 2, 2026

Wilbert Fay Murray, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 67. He was born on May 12, 1959, in Morgantown, and was the youngest of twelve children born to Elmer C. and Ella Murray.

Wilbert, affectionately known as "Wilb" to his family and friends, was a dedicated worker, having spent many years in construction with Homestead Builders, as well as a brief period in the oil and gas pipeline sector. His work ethic was matched only by his love for the land, as he cherished caring for his cattle and finding treasures while hauling scrap for recycling. Wilbert had a remarkable ability to repair and fix nearly anything, showcasing his resourcefulness and handy nature.

A man of great humor, he delighted in the company of his grandchildren, often bringing them joy with his playful antics, including memorable snipe hunts. His grandchildren, whom he affectionately referred to by their nicknames, included Kaitlyn "Katy Bug" Murray, Marissa "Blondie" Kessler, Natalie "Red" Kessler, Isaac "Booba" Murray, and Jordan, Jayden, and Justin Blosser, along with his pride and joy, Danielle Elizabeth Murray. He also held a special place in his heart for his great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Elizabeth Kessler.

Wilbert is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Kessler, of Morgantown, and two sons and their fiancées, Daniel "Dan" Murray (Heather Clark) and Jason "Jay" Murray (Jamie Clendenin).

He is also survived by his twin brother, Gilbert Murray; his brother, Raymond Murray; and his sisters, Velma Jean Hart, Doris Deavers, Barbara Jean Dalton, and Addie Deavers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Kathy Cress Murray; siblings Beulah Summers, Tom and Charles Murray, Eva Blosser, Charlotte Tennant; and his niece, Susan Myers.

Friends and family will gather at the Mountainview Pentecostal Church, Mountainview Road, Morgantown, on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, from 4 PM until the time of the service on Sunday, Sept. 6, at noon, with Pastor Donna Dalton officiating. Burial will follow at the Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
