Waunita Jean Trickett

June 27, 1925 — October 10, 2012

Waunita Jean Trickett, 87, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday October 10, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born June 27, 1925 in Morgantown a daughter to the late Ira and Pearl Dixon Trickett. Waunita was a member of Avery United Methodist Church where she has served in many leadership roles, including leading Sunday School, the senior group, and United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of National College in Kansas City, MO. She was commissioned a Deaconess in the United Methodist Church in January of 1953. She served in McDowell County, WV, Smith County Raleigh, MS, and Fayette County, PA. She returned to Randolph County, WV serving 11 years at Tyrand Parish in the Mill Creek-Huttonsville area. She also spent 6 years as the mayor of Huttonsville, WV. Waunita was instrumental in getting 4-H Clubs started in McDowell County, WV, helping distressed people who lost jobs in the coal mines, and starting a public library in Raleigh County, WV. Her last years of service were spent in Wayne County, WV. Waunita served 35 ½ years of active service with over 50 years of service as a United Methodist Deaconess. Her greatest joy was serving God and seeking to do all she could to advance the Church of Jesus Christ. She is survived by a brother Kenneth Trickett of Oakland, MD; cousins Thelma Jarrell, Beatrice Trickett, and Dot Webb all of Roanoke, WV; and her church family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Clifford Trickett; sister Evelyn Trickett; and nephew James Trickett. Friends will be received at Avery United Methodist Church 1152 Cheat Rd. Morgantown, WV on Friday October 12, 2012 from 5-7pm and again on Saturday from 10am until time of funeral services at 11am with Pastor Richard Work officiating. Burial will follow at Halleck Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deaconess and Home Missioner Endowment Fund 475 Riverside Dr. Suite 1505 New York, NY 10115.
