Virgil Grant Layman

Virgil Grant Layman, 76, of Chaplin Hill, Mylan Park formerly of Cassville departed this life on Tuesday September 1, 2015 at his home with his family by his side, following a battle with Leukemia. He was born January 21, 1939, in Pursglove, a son of the late Gertrude and Chauncy Layman. He enjoyed hunting and watching wildlife, watching the Steelers and Mountaineers on TV, crossword puzzles, and having his children and grandchildren come to visit. He was a graduate of University High School and served his country in the U.S. Army for three years. He retired from Consol Coal Company in 1995 after 27 years of service. Virgil is survived by his wife of 43 years, Geraldine Gerri" Layman; sons Stephen and wife Jennifer of Chaplin, Cody and wife Miranda of Terra Alta; daughter Kristi Vance and husband Jeff of Chaplin; eight grandchildren Josie and Kiley Layman, Christian, Caden, Ashtyn Vance, Virgil II and Wyatt Layman, Brooklyn Sierra; sisters Gladys Petsko, Annie Cox, Linda Townsend and husband Sonny, and Sandy Castelli and husband Charlie; brothers Edward Layman and wife, Wilma, Chauncy Layman and wife, Becky, and James Layman and wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Linda Shultz and husband, Joe; and bother-in-law, David Adams and wife, Robin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law John Petsko and Ed Cox. Family and friends may call at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service with Rev. Leonard Graham officiating.
