On Friday, October 12, 2018, Mrs. Velma Jean Slavensky, age, 70, went to Heaven on the wings of angels, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her family at her home in Maidsville.
She was born June 29, 1948 in Morgantown a daughter to Charles F. and Georgia Williams Parker. She was a lifelong faithful member of the Fort Martin United Methodist Church.
Velma has been employed at West Virginia University Office of the Registrar for more than 25 years and truly enjoyed her job and friends and was planning to retire at the end of this year.
Velma enjoyed many hobbies including; knitting and crocheting gifts for friends and family. She also loved mowing her lawn and gardening. Above all things, Velma took great pride in spoiling her grandchildren. In her younger days, she loved camping with her family and quilting with the sewing club at her church. She was a dedicated supporter of The Scott’s Run backpack program for the kids.
Velma is survived by her son, David Slavensky and spouse Sheryl; daughter Kimberly Slavensky and spouse Dylan Oliveto; sister, Rose Mary Eavenson; brother, Curt Parker and wife Julie; grandchildren, Jessica Slavensky and fiancé Chris Shriver, Holly Slavensky and friend Justin Saunders, Kylin Oliveto, Sean Thomas and wife Tiffany, Jenna Ratke, Mason Ratke, Alec Ratke; great-grandchildren Peyton, Brooklyn, Christian, Haylee and Adrianna; sister-in-law, Donna M. Slavensky. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers, who will miss her terribly.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband Steve Michael Slavensky; brothers-in-law, Roy Slavensky and wife Donna J., Frank Slavensky and Larry Eavenson and nephews, Chris Eavenson and Frank Slavensky, Jr.
Family will receive friends at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 3pm until 8pm and again on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from noon until time of services at 1pm with Pastors Kevin Cain and Wanda Brosky officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Steve at the Bethel Cemetery.
