Thomas William McCormick, known affectionately as Tom, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023, at Evergreen of Morgantown. Born on February 28, 1938, in McCormick Hollow, Tom was a beloved figure in his community for many years.
Tom, the only child of the late John and Helen Mae Braddock McCormick, was preceded in death by his wife, Annette McCormick, and his granddaughter, Amanda M. Lorusso.
He is survived by his son, Timothy S. McCormick, and spouse of MD; daughter, Kathryn M. Lorusso, and spouse of MD; and son, James M. McCormick, and spouse of OK. Tom was a proud grandfather to Ashley Lorusso Buchanan and spouse, Sydney McCormick, Thomas McCormick, Morgan McCormick & Marc Allen McCormick, and a great-grandfather to Gracelyn May Buchanan, whom he adored.
A graduate of Morgantown High School, Tom furthered his education at Oklahoma State University, earning a two-year engineering degree. He dedicated his professional life to the coal industry, retiring as a coal engineer from CONSOL after previous stints at FMC and Arch Coal. Alongside his wife, Annette, Tom also co-owned and operated Annette's Bridal & Floral in Morgantown from 1978 until the early 2000s.
Tom was a man of many interests. He was an avid football fan, particularly of the WV Mountaineers. He and his wife Annette were snowbirds of Tucson, AZ, escaping the winter months for warmer climates. Tom was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 411 and the Drummond United Methodist Church, which is now Suncrest UMC.
Tom's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his passion for his work, and his commitment to his community. His wisdom and intelligence were admired by all who knew him, and his handy nature made him a go-to resource for those in need. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the community he served so well.
Tom's passing leaves a void that will be hard to fill, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the power of hard work, the importance of family, and the value of community. He will be deeply missed.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 12 PM until the time of service at 2 PM, with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. He will rest beside his wife at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
