Tom Hovatter, Ii

August 26, 1965 — June 9, 2024

Thomas Andrew Hovatter II, left this world too soon at the age of 58 following injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on June 9, 2024, in Melbourne, Florida. Born on August 26, 1965, in San Diego, California, Tom's journey eventually led him to the serene shores of Florida—a place where he found joy and peace.

Tom proudly served his country as a member of the US Air Force. His knack for mechanics shone bright as he worked diligently on various aircraft, ensuring the safety and readiness of the nation's fleet. Upon his return to civilian life, Tom wore many hats: from the depths of coal mines to the counters of retail, and finally, where he felt most at home, behind the wheel of a truck. His recent work with Ambassador Services, Inc. was a source of happiness and pride, where he was cherished and esteemed by his colleagues.

The quieter moments of life brought Tom the most pleasure. Tom was known for his love of riding his beloved Harley, embodying the spirit of freedom and adventure that came with it. With a reserved and thoughtful nature, Tom, or "Corner Tom," as he was known at his favorite WV pub, sought serenity in simple things. He recently found joy and excitement in the wonders of space exploration, often visiting Cape Canaveral and Port Canaveral to witness the awe-inspiring rocket launches that paint the Florida skyline.

Tom’s memory will be lovingly cherished by his daughter Jessica Snider and her husband Jeremy, his adored grandson Hudson, his sister Marcella Hovatter, his nephew Marshall Stepney, and great-niece and nephew Saliha Stepney, Marshall Stepney, Jr., his Aunt Carol (Charles) Kirk; Uncle James Barnett, a host of friends, and his faithful canine companion, Muttly.

Preceding Tom in death were his beloved parents, Thomas and Delores Hovatter and Uncles Delbert Barnett Jr. and Donald Barnett.

Tom’s life, inevitably etched with his kindness, sense of duty, and gentle demeanor, leaves a legacy of devotion to family, country, and the simple joys of life that will be honored and remembered by all who knew him.

Family and friends will gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 4 – 8 PM and again on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM. The family will honor Tom’s wishes for cremation following his services. Interment will take place at a later date with military honors.
