Thelma Christine Uteg

Thelma Christine Uteg (nee Holmberg), also known as Mom, Grandma, and GG, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 27, 2018, after a struggle with Alzheimer’s disease at Evergreen Assisted Living in Morgantown, WV.

She was predeceased by her parents Oscar Wilhelm Holmberg and Hanna Fredrika Holmberg, and her brother Kenneth Holmberg. She was also predeceased by her husband, Wallace Robert Uteg, of 49 years. She is survived by her four children: Christine Marie Uteg of Melba, ID; Ann Uteg Falkenstine (husband Craig) of Morgantown, WV; Patrice Joann Aldrich of Garland, TX; and Robert Norman Uteg of Warren, MI. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (soon to be seven!).

Mom was mainly a homemaker, making sure we knew how to run a sewing machine, and teaching us how to knit, crochet, and other creative endeavors. She also ushered us through Girl Scouts (learning lifesaving along the way and ending with our going through the youth Mariner program in Connecticut). She also loved camping and traveling. Later in life she traveled extensively, visiting such far-off places as Hawaii, the Orient, Australia, and Norway. Later she concentrated on her charity work at St. John’s Hospital in Warren, MI, and making quilts for all her children and grandchildren, as well as knitting numerous sweaters for the little ones that came along later.

Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord was very important to her, and she was very involved with church life during her times at both King of Kings Lutheran Church in Shelby Township, MI, and Christ Lutheran Church in Warren, MI.

We love you, Mom, and though we know you are in a much better place, we miss you!
