Sylvia Ann Young, 80, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born June 18, 1946, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Elmer and Lucy Murray McDonald.

Sylvia worked for West Virginia University in Stalnaker Hall before later being employed by Rental Uniform Service. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Nicholson Chapel. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, crafting, and tinkering around the house, always finding joy in keeping busy. She also loved shopping and was always on the lookout for her next great bargain. Above all, Sylvia treasured the time she spent with her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Mathess and husband, Shawn; her son, William Young and fiancée, Melissa Kyer; granddaughter Brittany Walls and husband, Travis, and their children, Harper and Hudson Walls; grandson Lester Young, Jr.; granddaughter Audryanna Young and her children, Chase and Sierra Young; granddaughter Haley Dalton and husband, Raymus, and their children, Raylee and Josie Dalton; granddaughter Brianna DiVecchio and husband, Adam, who are expecting their son, Stetson DiVecchio; grandson William Young and wife, Mikayla, and their children, Heidi and Lucas Young; grandson Troy Dalton; and granddaughter Blu Meritt.

Sylvia is also survived by her beloved sisters, Carolyn Dalton and Juanita 'Elope' Hart and husband, Hubert 'Son,' as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester C. Young; her son, Lester A. Young; her brothers, Ralph McDonald, Francis McDonald, Cecil McDonald, and Lester McDonald; and her sisters, Clara Murray, Loretta McDonald, and Joyce Austin.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Jim Weber officiating. Following the service, Sylvia will be laid to rest at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
