Samuel Peter Gerard

Samuel Peter ‘Sam’ Gerard, 69, of the River Road, Morgantown, died Friday December 22, 2017 of complications from brain cancer at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 14, 1948 in Morgantown son to the late Sammie and Betty Wolfe Gerard.

Sam, or 'Buddy' as he was known to family, was a 1966 graduate of Morgantown High School and later attended Fairmont State. Sam retired from CONSOL’s Blacksville No. 2 Mine with more than 40 years of service.

Sam was a songwriter and lead singer of the group The Diplomats, and used to lead the praise band at Saint Elizabeth Seton church. His passion for music was evident when he performed and brought joy to his audience. Sam loved camping and vacation with his family, and worked hard to make Christmas special for them.

Sam is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Linda Kerns Gerard; two sons, Christian Michael Gerard and husband Malcom Lee of Centerville, VA, Dominick Samuel Gerard and wife Karen; daughter, Gina Gale Gerard and husband Garry Sceppa of Ashburn, VA; two grandchildren Ava and Nora Gerard and three brothers, Michael Gerard and wife Dana, David Gerard and wife Sheena, and Christopher Gerard and wife Paula; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Gerard; sister-in-law Shawn Gerard; and his faithful canine companion Lucy.

Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 4pm until time of services at 6pm with Pastor Rick Sharpless officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be at a later date.
