Rylee Sierra Burnette

August 21, 2002 — October 10, 2019

Rylee Sierra Burnette, 17 of Burton, WV, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019. The youngest daughter of Deanna Burnette and Tim Burnette, Rylee was born August 21, 2002 in Morgantown. She adored her older brother and sister who she greatly admired; although they were competitive with each other in sports and were known to frequently take each other’s clothes, they always did so with love, amusement, and good fun.

Rylee was Senior at Clay Battelle High School where she was an honor student and member of the Honor Society, as well as a gifted, standout varsity athlete. She was particularly passionate about basketball and softball, but also played volleyball and ran cross country and track. Rylee was known as a star athlete as well as a kind and thoughtful teammate. She was a compassionate, caring soul who encouraged others and had a heart of gold. Rylee had an extensive shoe collection and was blessed with an infectious, beaming smile. She was humble, simple, and exuded a natural, radiant beauty.

Although Rylee had an intense affection for sports, she was strongly devoted to her family, who she held most dear. She is survived by her sister, Kali Hinkle and husband Derek; brother, Tanner Burnette, maternal grandparents, Doris and Randy White; paternal grandmother Debbie Burnette and many other loving family members including aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, and cousins. Rylee was proceeded in death by her paternal grandfather, Herbie Burnette, with whom she has finally been reunited.

Rylee's family would like to express their gratitude to Butch and Sherry Patterson, who have extended guidance and care to Rylee as if she were their own daughter.

Fans, teammates opponents, parents, and coaches are all currently on the same team—Team Rylee. The family encourages everyone to wear their own team apparel, home or away, because Rylee loved sports and would have wanted it that way. Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Wednesday, from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm and again on Thursday, October 17, 2019, from 9:30am until the 10:30am celebration of life. Burial will follow at WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown, WV.
