Ruth Cooley Stabene,91, of Star City, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab Center.
The daughter of the late James and Irene Simpson Cooley, Ruth was born in Morgantown on July 17, 1927. Ruth worked at the General Hospital, Star City Glass made a home for her own family and watched many other children from the community.
If you knew Miss Ruth, you knew she did not mince words. She told it like it was and those closest to her appreciated that quality about her. She was a matriarch of Star City and will be sadly missed by her neighbors and friends. She was a faithful member of the St. Mary Catholic Church.
Ruth is survived by her son and his wife, Harvey Jr. and Edith Stabene; two grandchildren, Melissa Mason and her spouse, Michele and Harvey Stabene, III; two great grandchildren: Taylor and Rourke DeLancey; one sister Dorothy Hill. Also surviving are, her special friends Jackie Hess, Bob, Laura ‘JJ’ and Owen Williams, Jerry Kuhn, the Reckart family and Todd Gregg and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harvey Stabene in 2011. One sister, Virginia “Ginny” Kotopka and one brother Donald Cooley.
Friends will be received at the St. Mary Catholic Church, Peace Hall, on Monday, August 20, 2018 from 10am until her Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon with Rev. Father Gary Naegele as celebrant. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends would like to offer their gratitude to the staff of Mapleshire for the compassionate care given to Ruth during her recent stay.
