Roy Franklin Jones

Roy Franklin Jones, son of the late George Curtis & Freda Horn Jones, passed peacefully at Fitzwater Personal Care Home, Morgantown Ave. Fairmont on May 31, 2023.

Roy lived in the Smithtown, White Day area of Monongalia County. He was born October 9, 1928, in the Mt. Zion Area of Marion County, where he enjoyed caring for & raising cattle on the family farm during summers until the farm sold.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bea Jones Thomas, the first Ms. Senior, WV & her husband J. Huey Thomas; brother-in-law Michael Nugent from California and special Aunt & Uncle Ed & Hazel Bower from Meadowdale, Marion Co.

Roy is survived by a loving sister, Annabelle Nugent; nieces & nephew, Lisa & (Ken) Bingham; Laura (Mike) Mansfield; Michael (Susan) Nugent, all of San Diego, CA & Martha (Tim) Prodanovich of CO as well as many great nieces & nephews.

Roy enjoyed mental and physical work. He took pride in his vehicles, home, and several dogs he raised.

Roy worked at the Fairmont Theater while attending Fairmont State. After graduating, he worked at Fairmont Supply and then as an accountant for Consolidated Gas, where he continued until his retirement in 1991.

Roy enjoyed watching food & travel television as well as traveling himself to many places. He read the newspaper every day, along with playing solitaire on his computer. Roy enjoyed life to the fullest.

He lived alone until the middle of January 2023, when he was admitted to Encompass, then Stonerise of Morgantown. Thank you to all the employees for their care and love. He was home for a week until he asked to be taken to Fitzwater Personal Care Home. Mr. Fitzwater settled him in a beautifully decorated large room with a fireplace, large TV, table, bed, recliner & dressers. Dave, Mike & Renee took excellent care of Roy during his 33-day stay. He was happy & laughed often.

A graveside service was held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Pisgah Cemetery, Smithtown Road, Morgantown, with Pastor Stephanie Bennett officiating. Friends may view the service on Roy’s memorial page at www.fredjenkinsfuneralhome.com.
