Rosina Potesta 98, of Morgantown passed away Monday November 19, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Valentino and Felorina Maccia Potesta of Fairmont, WV. Rosina was a school teacher all her life until she retired. She started her career of teaching at Central School in Fairmont, her birth place, proceeded to become librarian and in due time, teacher of English and French at East Fairmont High School. She was a devoted teacher and through the years many of her admiring students kept in contact with her inviting her to their reunions in Fairmont. After a number of years of teaching at East Fairmont High School, she moved to Long Island, NY where she was hired to teach English at Wantagh High School. She continued her teaching career there until she retired in the late 1970s. Miss Potesta received her B.A. Degree from Fairmont State Teachers College. She studied English literature and Italian at Columbia University, New York, and took French courses at McGill University, Canada. She received her Master's Degree from West Virginia University. After retiring from teaching in New York, she moved to Morgantown to live. Here she quickly became involved with ALL (Appalachian Lifelong Learners at WVU) where she took courses in literature, history, opera, great book studies, etc. She enjoyed these activities the remainder of her life. She also traveled extensively to Europe especially in England, Italy, France and Greece where she traced the footsteps of the poets she taught in her classes. She also visited China and Japan and vacationed in various Caribbean Islands. She is survived by nieces, Leyna Gabriele of New York City, Betty Grove and husband Benjamin of Marietta, GA, Cynthia Keane of North Potomac, MD, and Karen Potesta of Charleston, WV and Meghan V. Keane of Washington, DC; three nephews Eugene Potesta and wife Shirley of Columbiana, OH, Edward Potesta of Worthington, WV and Paul Potesta and wife Bonnie of Merion, PA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Gabriele; three brothers, Woodrow Potesta, Henry Potesta and Harry Red' Potesta and niece Doris Hallie. Cremation was arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11am Friday November 23, 2012 at the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
