Ronald Ray Friend

Ronald R. Friend, of Morgantown, WV, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 15, 2015 at the age of 62. The son of the late Melvin and Ruth Friend, Ron was born December 7, 1952 in Morgantown, WV. Ron was a 1970 graduate of Morgantown High School and a United States Army veteran. He was employed at Montgomery Wards for 17 years and retired in 2014 from the Monongalia Board of Education after 15 years. He found peace and happiness on the farm, and loved taking care of others, whether it was his family or animals on the farm. Ron was always willing to help fix a car or tractor. Ron was a football fan and especially enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play as well as the Steelers. Most of all he enjoyed watching the sunsets on the back porch with his wife. Ron is survived by his wife of 33 years, Brenda Reese Friend; his children Randy (Christy) Cottrell, Jennifer (David) Longanbach, Ronelle (Jay) Barr, Dempsey Friend, and Nick Friend; his grandchildren Nicholas, Jimmy and his five monkeys Lindsey, Grace, Leslie, Nicholas, Craig, and Brody; his sisters Dolores (Ronnie) Vannoy, Jeannie Smith, Lana (Ben) Cantoni, and brother David (Rachel) Friend; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, Saturday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and Sunday, January 18, 2015, from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. service at the Covenant Evangelical Methodist Church, 802 Green Bag Road, Morgantown, WV 26508, with Rev. Sean Wightman and Rev. Nate Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery, Morgantown, WV. Military Honors will be conducted by the Westover VFW Post 9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson.
