Robert Allen "Bob" Watts, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly at his home in Westover on December 19, 2024, after a long illness. Born in Davis, WV, on March 26, 1940, to the late Blake and Rose Watts, Bob's 84 years were filled with love, laughter, and a legacy of service.
Bob's youth was spent in Morgantown where he distinguished himself as a bright student at University High School. His sense of duty and adventure led him to join the Army after graduation, where he served honorably with the renowned 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. Bob's athleticism shone during his time in the service, playing on the Army's basketball team, which celebrated victories throughout Europe to the delight of their General.
Upon returning from service, Bob's passion for sports continued as he played on the Earl & Marie's and Dunkard Beach Fastpitch softball teams. His competitive spirit helped lead his teams to two state championships in the 1970s, earning them spots in the World Series tournaments in Arizona and California. Beyond the field, Bob briefly explored the finance sector in a local business before dedicating his career to the coal mining industry, where he worked in security and later as a coal miner until his retirement at 55.
Retirement provided Bob ample opportunity to pursue his passions, including hunting, fishing, golf, and coaching youth in baseball and softball. His green thumb was evident in his vibrant garden, and his heart for nature extended to feeding local deer, squirrels, and other wildlife often from his own hands. Bob was a steadfast Christian who attended HOPE Church, living his faith through action and kindness.
Bob's life was profoundly enriched by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mrs. Mary Jo Voithofer Watts. Their love story was one for the ages, rooted in mutual respect and unwavering support. Together, they raised their son, Robert G. "Bobby" Watts, who along with his wife Deanna, continued Bob's legacy of warmth and family values. Bob was the proud grandfather of Chandler and Emily, and Ryan and Emily, who blessed him with the joy of great-grandchildren Addison, Greyson, and Avery. His role as a patriarch was one he embraced with every hug, every laugh, and every piece of wisdom he imparted.
Remembered for his quick wit and friendly demeanor, Bob leaves behind fond memories and enduring relationships. His remarkable story is one of a simple life lived fully—a testament to his character and the modesty with which he approached each day.
Bob's absence will be profoundly felt among all who had the pleasure of knowing this funny, friendly man who approached each moment with good humor and grace.
Warmly regarded, profoundly missed, and forever remembered, Bob's memory will live on through the values he embraced and the lives he touched—a perfect legacy for a life so beautifully lived.
Honoring Bob’s wishes a private ceremony was held at the East Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. M.A. & Joseph Donham officiating. Military rites were rendered by WVANG, Kingwood and Mon County Honor Guard.
