Robert Samuel Permar was born December 27, 1929 in Morgantown, son of David M. and Harriet S. Permar. Bob went to be with Jesus on September 2, 2016 at the Monongalia General Hospital at the age of 86.
Bob graduated from Morgantown High School and attended WVU. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Morgantown City Firefighter, at the Norwood Fire Station and a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 152 in Morgantown. He was employed by the Monongalia County Board of Education as a school bus driver and in the maintenance department.
Bob was an Eagle Scout and helped with Boy Scouts for several years. He coached basketball in the Christian Youth Basketball League. Bob loved teaching and mentoring young people his whole life. He was a referee for both junior and senior high school football and basketball for many years. He officiated with the Mountaineer Board of Football officials for many years, and he was on the ‘Chain Crew’ for the West Virginia Mountaineers for over 30 years.
Bob’s desire was to serve his Lord Jesus with all of his heart alongside his wife. Bob was an active member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church of Morgantown. One mission that was very important to him was Christian Help where he volunteered for several years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of nearly 34 years, Carol of Morgantown; daughter, Carol Straight (Glen) of Morgantown; granddaughter, Megan Martinez (Roy) of Tampa, FL; grandson, Aaron Straight (Hannah) of Ringgold, LA; great grandchildren, Katelyn, Jamie, Connor, Maggie and Jaxon; step-children, Commander Richard L. Siemens of Amarillo, TX, Cynthia Willman of Monrovia, CA, Dr. Karen Warrick (Greg) of Bear Valley Springs, CA and Julie Bailey (Perry) of Manassas, VA; loving step-grandchildren, Heather, Laurie, Justin, Hadley, Madeleine, Jack and Susannah. Also surviving is his niece Paige Hardin of Long Beach, CA.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 308 Elmhurst Street, Morgantown, 26505 on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 11am until 1pm. Memorial service will begin at 1pm with Pastors Bruce Rzengota, David Goodin, and Craig Falkenstine officiating.
