Robert L. Gidley, 72, of Tyrone Avery Road, Morgantown passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at his residence. He was born November 7, 1937 in Morgantown, the son of the late William Albert and Edith Mellinger Gidley. Robert was employed as a crane operator for City Crane, a 50 year member of Operating Engineers Local 132, a member of the Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Dept., a youth leader for the Cheat Lake sports program, and an elder of the Canyon Presbyterian Church. Robert is survived by his wife Patty L. Wilburn Gidley; two sons Robert L. Gidley, Jr. and his wife Janet of Grafton, and Roger A. Gidley and his wife Jenette of Morgantown; two brothers William D. Gidley and his wife Donna and John Albert Gidley and his wife Mabel both of Bell, Fl; five grandchildren Nathan Gidley, Jennifer Gidley Campbell, Bryce Gidley, Eric Gidley and Shanna Gidley, and four great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Janet Keenan and husband Harry, and brothers-in-law Darwin Wilburn and his wife Yvonne, William Wilburn, and Robert Wilburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Gloria "June" White, a sister-in-law Bonnie Birurakis, and a brother-in-law James Wilburn. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 6-8pm and again on Saturday from 11am until the time of services at 1pm with Richard Moore and Brent Wilmoth officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center's Comfort Fund c/o WV Foundation PO Box 9300, Morgantown, WV 26506.
