Robert James Calhoun, 69, of Morgantown, died on Sunday, March 11, 2018, after a long illness. He was born on December 1, 1949, in Beckley, WV, the youngest son of Flauzell and Jean Calhoun.
He served in the US Navy; graduated from the WV Culinary Arts Program at Pipestem and worked as a chef at several well-known resorts. He retired from Mon General and Chestnut Ridge Hospitals as a Medical Associate and Phlebotomist in 2014 leaving a myriad of friends and co-workers. He was a scholar of history, religion, and the bible. He loved his family, people in general, being outdoors, fishing, and cooking.
He is survived by two sons, Dwayne and Jermaine Calhoun; and two daughters, Love Calhoun and Robin Calhoun. He also leaves to mourn four sisters; Florine Gwynn and Mozell Brown of Morgantown, WV Rephenie Sagere of Buffalo, NY, and Alein Tyree of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Flauzell Calhoun Jr. of Menifee, Ca., and a whole host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Flauzell Sr, and mother, Jean Calhoun; and sister, Betty Lou Calhoun-Scales. .
The family will receive friends at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, located at 10 South High Street, Morgantown, from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11am with the Rev. Robert Burton officiating. Burial will be at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV on Sunday March 25, 2018 at 1pm with military honors conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard.
