Riley Scott McCarty, 67, of Morgantown, passed away on Thursday May 29, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Scott was born March 6, 1947 in Terra Alta, WV, son to the late Jerry William and Helen Yonker McCarty. Scott was a graduate of Morgantown High School. He was a US Army Veteran, served two tours in Vietnam where he attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a member of the American Legion Post 174 and the Masontown, WV VFW Post 1589. Scott retired from the Sterling Faucet Company as a machinist. Scott had many hobbies and interests, but nothing could compare to the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was Methodist by faith. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mrs. Marlene Hines McCarty; daughter, Connie McCarty Johns; sons, Philip McCarty and David McCarty and wife Cheryl all of Morgantown; two sisters, Cindy Cramer of Terra Alta, and Helena Dugan and husband John of Morgantown; three beloved grandchildren, Elijah and Josiah McCarty and McKenzie Johns all of Morgantown; his best friend, Lucky Gibel of Gladesville, WV and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry W. McCarty, Jr., Charles McCarty and Perry McCarty and one brother-in-law, David Cramer. Friends may call the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Sunday June 1, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8pm and again on Monday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Father Andy Switzer and Mark Switzer officiating. Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the Preston County Honor Guard and WVANG, Camp Dawson. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Scott to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
