Richard Gibson

June 19, 1963 — October 18, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Allen "Hoot" Gibson, age 62, of Morgantown, who died at his home surrounded by family, on October 18, 2025. Born on June 19, 1963, in Morgantown, Richard was a beloved husband, father, son, and friend.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Roxanna Gibson, and their three sons: Ryan Gibson, Justin (Haley) Gibson, and Joshua Gibson. He was the proud son of Phyllis Gibson of Morgantown and brother to Larry (Connie) and David (Ruth) Gibson. Richard cherished his five nieces and three nephews, as well as his cousins Chris, Richard, and Craig Mitchell, their mother Vera Mitchell and Uncle Gary Walls.

He was a dedicated equipment operator for Mylan Pharmaceuticals and had previously worked for 14 years at Cheat Lake Hardware. Richard was passionate about sports, coaching all three of his sons in baseball and basketball, proudly cheering them on throughout their athletic careers.

An outdoorsman at heart, Richard found joy in rabbit hunting with his late grandfather Dwight Gibson and his dogs, pointing to this as some of the most cherished moments of his life. He also enjoyed golfing in the summer and hunting during the winter months. He held a particular fondness for country music, with Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind" being his favorite song.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Dale Gibson, Grandparents, Dwight and Mae Gibson and George and Irma Walls, and his uncle Charlie Mitchell, as well as his closest friend, Glen Benson. His love for family and friends was evident in everything he did, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Family and friends will gather at Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 22nd, from 4-8 PM, and again on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM, with his good friend Tom Riffon officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Richard's memory to the Hoss Foundation P.O Box 327 Dellslow, WV 26531

Richard Allen Gibson's soul will forever reside in the hearts of his loved ones.
