Rex Vernon Dement

Rex Vernon DeMent,

78, of Star City went home to be with the Lord at 10:30 a.m. on Monday; December 14, 2015, at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born July 31, 1937 in Cassville, WV, a son of the late Ralph and Zella DeMent.

Rex grew up in Cassville, WV and attended University High School. He retired from University High School where he was an employee of their maintenance/custodial staff.

Rex loved his family and was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. Rex was a man of great patience, detail and he could fix or repair anything that was presented to him. Rex loved the outdoors, tending to his wife’s flowers and always planted a garden. He was constantly on the go. He loved Country and Polka Music and he was a fabulous dancer.

Rex is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sandy DeMent. They shared a very deep love for one another; and his two fur babies, Precious and Peanut.

Also surviving are son Ray DeMent and his wife Terri of Granville, WV who were very special to him and two very special grandchildren, Rob DeMent and Chris DeMent and his wife Brittney, one sister Glenda Troy and her husband Glenn of Cassville, WV, a very special cousin Caroline Peterson of Kelton, Pennsylvania who was like a sister to him and last but certainly not least an awesome lady, as Rex referred to her, Sue Core who made Rex’s life very special, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition, to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lavenia Metcalf and her husband Charles.

Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 South High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501, Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
