Reverend John E. Stephens, Sr., 77, departed his life on January 24, 2013 at the Sundale Nursing home. He was born December 12, 1935 in Plymouth, WV son to the late Charles Casper Stephens and Ethel May Peoples-Fluellen. John was raised by Cora Fluellen. He attended school in Morgantown and in Charleston, WV. He earned his BA in Psychology and Master's in guidance and counseling. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. He worked in construction for 20 years in the Laborers Union #379 and later worked for Valley Mental Health of Morgantown and Northwood Health in Wheeling, WV. John went into the ministry in 1972. He preached in Northern, WV, PA and OH. John served the Lord for 41 years. He was ordained Itinerate Elder in the AME Church. He was a mentor to many with encouraging words and guidance. He will be deeply missed by all. He leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife of 53 years, Grace I. Stephens; one son John E. Stevie' Stephens, Jr.; grandchildren, Stevie, Shanetha, Shane, Alexis; great grandchildren, Donavan, Saiviara, Samarea, Kyree, Samiyah and Zyrin. Also surviving is one sister, Willa May Grier of Pittsburgh, PA, and one brother James Cauley and wife Mamie of Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son Keith E. Stephens. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Tuesday January 29, 2013 from 7pm to 9pm. Rev. Stephens will lie in repose at the Riverside Apostolic Church on Wednesday from 10am until his home going service at 11am with Eulogy by Presiding Elder, Alton Dillard. Burial will follow at the East Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by the WVANG, Camp Dawson and Westover VFW Post 9916.
