Rev. John L. Rittenhouse, 78, died on Thursday, April 11, 2019 in the presence of his wife, sons, grandchildren and Pastors at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV.
Born in Stevens, PA on July 29, 1940 to David & Myrtle Rittenhouse of Ridgley, MD. John was the fifth sibling of eight children. John’s has 4 surviving siblings, Retta, Ruth, Paul and Danny. His Dad, Mom & three other siblings; Roy, David and Norman preceded him in death.
John married his surviving wife, Ruth McDaniel Rittenhouse, on Oct 19, 2002 enjoying nearly 17 cherished years of love. They resided together in Morgantown, WV. Rev. Rittenhouse and “Ruthy”, as he lovingly called her, were actively involved in ministry to the broken, homeless and needy through the outreach of The Living Room in downtown Morgantown, WV founded by Rev. Rittenhouse in 2000. Recently, John and Ruthy added The Gospel Works in service to the homeless in the region.
John loved Ruth’s children as his own, including Holly Brown (Wally) of Phoenix, AZ and April Starsick (Josh) of Fairmont, WV as well as their 5 children.
In December of 1959, John married Carol Hewison and later gave birth to three sons. At Carol’s father's passing in 1963, they would add her 2 sisters, Martha & Becky, and her 2-year-old brother Joe to the family; effectively raising 4 boys & 2 teen girls.
Throughout the 70's, Dad could be heard singing and preaching in churches throughout the Delaware and Maryland peninsula in ministry with The Rittenhouse Family. John's sons; John Rittenhouse (Lynnae) of Seaford, DE, Joe Hewison (Cathy) of Frederick, MD, Mike Rittenhouse (Paula) of Delmar, DE and Keith Rittenhouse of Pocomoke, MD were part of the music ministry and survive their humble, passionate Dad.
Dad had many passions in his life, but first and foremost was serving Christ through blessing and ministering to the lost, hurting and broken souls. Besides his wife, siblings and children--he cared deeply for his 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Further, the family extends deepest gratitude to the Pastors Prayer Fellowship for support through the years and during his passing.
