Pearl Harriet Mcgilton

September 15, 1935 — January 31, 2025

Pearl Harriet McGilton, 89, of Morgantown, WV, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025,at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on September 15, 1935 in Morgantown, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Florence Eicher Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McGilton; her son, Adam “Bud” McGilton; her son-in-law, Millard Hawkins; and her six sisters, Rose Summy, Amanda Fleming, Florence McCrobie, Adeline Thompson, Vera Miller, and Vivian Rule.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Charlotte Hawkins of Kingwood; grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Morris of Morgantown, Kevin (Angie) Casino of Kingwood, Michael Casino and his companion, Pam Melcheck, of Reedsville, and Tammy (Chad) Galuska of Charleston, SC; and great-grandchildren, Brynlea Casino and Evan & Owen Galuska, all of whom she adored.

In her early years, she worked at Chico Dairy which resulted in many wonderful memories she shared often in her stories. Pearl dedicated many years to Monongalia County Schools, first as a teacher’s aide and later as a cook at Dorsey School, Mountainview Elementary, and Brookhaven Elementary. She took great pride in her work and the relationships she built with students and staff.

Pearl enjoyed many years of square dancing with her husband and bowling with the Thursday night Suburbanites League. She was a talented quilter, an avid reader, and a devoted Conway Twitty fan. She found joy in baking, gardening, watching WVU, NBA and NFL sports, bird watching/feeding, traveling with her daughter, and shopping with her grandchildren. Pearl embraced life with enthusiasm, warmth, and a kind heart.  Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her feisty personality.

We want to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jerry Hadrych, Amelita Martin, Dr. Holly Hartman-Adams and all the dedicated healthcare professionals who supported Pearl over the last several years.
