Paul Joseph Hart

March 26, 1943 — September 6, 2024

Paul Joseph Hart, known as Paul Joe to most, passed away at the age of 81, on September 6, 2024, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Born to Henry & Sarah Dalton Hart on March 26, 1943, in Morgantown, WV, Paul Joe was a man whose presence enriched the lives of those around him with his wisdom, selflessness, and handy nature.

Paul Joe's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife of 62 years, Velma Jean Murray Hart, his son Tim (Sherry) Hart & daughter Pastor Donna Dalton, who continue to walk in the light of his teachings and love. Although his son-in-law Danny 'Chub' Dalton preceded him in death, the bond they shared remains an integral thread in the family's tapestry.

The joys of his heart, his grandchildren Jodi (Joey) McDonald, Tara (TJ) Burns, Derik (Taylene) Hart, & Brian (Jodi) Hart, & his great-grandchildren Braxton Burns, Layce McDonald, Jaxon Burns, Mylee McDonald, & Tenley, Hudson, & Teyson Hart, will carry forth his legacy. The essence of Paul Joe's spirit resonates in their laughter and achievements. His vast number of nieces & nephews, notably his nephew Bob, with whom he shared a special bond and work life since Bob was sixteen, also survive him.

Paul Joe's journey through life was marked by the values instilled in him from an early age. A graduate of the school of hard work, he built his life and legacy with resilience and determination. For over half a century, he was the esteemed owner and operator of Hart Lumber, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering work ethic.

His interests were a mirror to his character; a diligent work ethic, a passion for gardening both flowers and vegetables, and a love for cowboy shows, such as his favorites, Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Paul Joe was also an avid player of the card game Rook, enjoying many an afternoon beneath his pavilion, entertaining neighbors and family alike.

Devoted to his faith, Paul Joe never missed Sunday school and held a special place for his Sunday School pals Ms. Kynslee and Chuggie, who shared his love and affection. Within the walls of his church, he occupied a special seat—a silent testament to his dedication and service.

He was a man of routine and simplicity, exemplified by his cherished 2 pm naps that recharged his spirit. Above all, Paul Joe was immensely proud of his grandchildren, hardly ever missing a school or community event they were a part of. His presence was a constant in their lives, offering support and love in abundance.

As the last surviving member of his original family, he now joins his brothers, Russell, Albert, Lloyd, Henry June, Bert, and Ray Hart, his sisters, Hazel Barr and Edith Dalton, and his son-in-law, Danny 'Chub' Dalton, leaving behind a family strengthened by his example.

Paul Joe, a man of unwavering integrity and kindness, will be deeply missed and forever cherished. He lived a life that was exemplary in its simplicity, love, and dedication—a true compass for all who knew him.
