Beloved husband, father and grandfather Paul G DeWitt, 81 of Parkersburg, WV, formerly of Morgantown, crossed into new life with friends and family who had gone before and his lord Jesus, Monday March 15, 2010. Born September 11, 1928 in Morgantown, WV to Okey J. and Isabella W. Shank DeWitt. At the age of 16, He left MHS to join the U.S. Army in WWII, serving in the European Theatre. Paul was honorably discharged remaining in the reserves, and was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict, teaching ordinance school at several bases in the U.S, and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. Joining the Morgantown Fire Department in 1960, he served 22 years, at the main station and sub stations, retiring in 1982. His garden in First Ward, a joint effort with a beloved uncle H.D. Kelly, was his great hobby. Paul was a life member of VFW Post 548 in Morgantown, and a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Parkersburg. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown, and Crossroads United Methodist Church in Parkersburg. The family relocated to Parkersburg March 15th, 2001. He is survived by his wife Shirley Hunter DeWitt. Three sons, David DeWitt wife Judy, Douglas DeWitt, and Jeffrey DeWitt wife Christina, one daughter Donna DeWitt. Four Grandchildren Joey DeWitt, Justin DeWitt, and his little angles Jon and Hannah DeWitt. His beloved Mother In Law Betty Hunter, and a brother Richard DeWitt. Preceding him in death were three brothers; Ronny, Jim and Okey (Buddy), Three sisters Loretta Ranko. Betty Smith, and Belma Smith, 2 infant grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 South High Street, Morgantown, WV, from 7 to 9 Tuesday, 3-5 and 7-9 Wednesday, with services Thursday, March 18th, at 11am in the Chapel of Prayer at Fred L Jenkins, with Reverend Randy Mitchell officiating. Internment will be at Lawnwood Cemetery on Madigan Ave, in Morgantown, with military rites by VFW Post 548 and WVANG, Camp Dawson. There is a Celebration of Life planned for Saturday March 20th, from 2 to 4 pm at the Crossroads U.M Church off Emerson Ave, in Parkersburg, WV
