Patsy DeChristopher

Patsy DeChristopher, a cherished member of the Star City community, passed peacefully on August 3, 2026, at Mon Health Medical Center. Born on March 13, 1938, in Frosolone, Italy, to the late John and Domenica "Maggie" DeChristopher, Patsy moved to the United States with his family as a child and was raised in Fairmont, WV, a place he always called home.

As the beloved husband of the late Joan S. DeChristopher, Patsy filled his years with love and laughter, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. A proud member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Star City since his marriage in 1965, he was deeply rooted in his faith and community.

Patsy was proud of his education, having attended Miller School and Fairmont Senior High School, where he often exclaimed, "West side is the best side!" He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, cherishing his time stationed at Rammery Air Force Base in Puerto Rico, where he enjoyed a memorable encounter with the soon-to-be baseball legend Roberto Clemente. This ignited his lifelong passion for sports, particularly baseball, where he remained an ardent supporter of the NY Yankees and Notre Dame teams.

A dedicated coach, Patsy inspired generations of little leaguers in Morgantown, guiding his own children, John and Lyn, while nurturing a love for the game in others. His role as a Bailiff under Justice Larry V. Starcher and Judge Russell M. Clawges, Jr. cemented his place in the Circuit Court of Monongalia County, from which he retired with pride.

Patsy's fierce love for his family and friends was evident to all. He is survived by his children, John (Connie Brady), Perri (Chuck Porter), and Lynette (Tracie DeFreitas), along with his beloved grandchildren, Sydney and Chase Porter. He also leaves behind a treasured nephew, Christopher Casino (Mechelle Cooley), and their children, Danielle and Anthony.

In recognition of the bonds that enriched his life, we would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his dear friends Bill and Maggie Maraney, who were like family, and to Michiele Maxwell for her compassionate care and companionship and many trips to his favorite, Eat n Park during his later years.

Friends and family will gather at St. Mary Catholic Church, Star City, 3346 University Ave, Morgantown, WV 26505 on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 4 PM - 7 PM and again on Friday from 10 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with the Very Rev. Fr. John P. McDonough, V.F. as celebrant. He will rest beside his beloved Joan at the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
