Pastor Donald Eugene Demastes, Sr.

Pastor Donald Eugene Demastes, Sr., 69, of Core, WV, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, May, 12, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 29, 1945 in Sutton, WV, son of the late Pearlie F. and Helen Lynch Demastes. Don worked in the coal mines for nearly 15 years. Don got saved at the age of 35 under the ministry of Pastor Barry Darnell. He then felt called into the ministry and was the Pastor of two local churches and was instrumental in establishing over 23 churches across the country. He was a graduate of University High School and then went on to receive his Pastoral Degree from Hyles-Anderson College and then was given an Honorary Doctorate. Don was also a Veteran of the US Air Force. Don is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Norma Jean Tennant Demastes; daughter, Peggy L. LaMar and husband John, Sr. of Masontown, WV; son, Donald E. Donnie' Demastes, Jr., of Morgantown; grandchildren, Peggy Sue Bell and husband C.J., Amanda Dawn Slaubaugh and husband Jeremiah and John F. Scooter' LaMar Jr and wife Megan; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Jeremiah, Jr. Slaubaugh and John D. LaMar. Also surviving is one brother, Ira S. Bud' Demastes and wife Patty of Morgantown; sisters, Kathy Francis and husband Harry, Cassville, Carolyn Rice of Gaines, WV; Sharon deHuarte and husband David of Cassville and Judy Burnside and husband Hurlie of Gaines, WV; sister-in-law, Lonabelle Demastes of Gaines, WV. In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by one brother Robert Franklin Demastes and three infant sisters. Don requested that his casket be closed throughout his services. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 6pm until 8pm and again on Friday from noon until time of services at 1pm with Pastor Barry Darnell and Pastor Bob Barker officiating.
