Otha Lorn Murray

Otha Lorn (Bill) Murray, 98 of Dellslow passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Monongalia General Hospital. He was born February 21, 1915 in Morgantown, the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth McKinny Murray. Bill was a resident of Dellslow for 71 years, and retired from the Humphrey #7 mine with 60 years of service. He started playing music at the age of 9 and was the eldest Sagebrush Roundup musician and the only regularly scheduled one to have played the Roundup' when it was a radio show held in the Fairmont Armory. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame on April 20, 2013. He also played at the Metropolitan Theater in Morgantown and also in Uniontown, Pa., as well as the Rev. Frank Hilling show and for funerals. For one night a week, a group of people would get together and play at Bill's house. He is survived by his wife Bessie McCormick Murray whom he married on March 2009, 3 sons Lorn and wife Kathy Murray, Arthur and wife Kay Murray and Terry Murray , one daughter Lucille and husband Bob Cassino all of Morgantown, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, one brother Jack Murray, age 102 of Morgantown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Rachael McCrobie Murray in September 1999, a daughter Anna Lee Mayfield on November 2009, a son Sam Murray on September 2002, a brother Elmer (Bitty) Murray, 9 half-sisters, Winnie Murray, Laurie Davis, Bessie Summers, Pearl Dye, Fay Chapman, Florence Carr, Minnie Ballotti, Annie Burke and Fanny Lemmons. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 4-8pm and again on Wednesday from 12 noon until the time of services at 1pm. Burial will follow in the Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
