Nellie Jean (Hlad) Miller, 76, of Cassville, WV, departed this life on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by her loving sons. She was born June 8, 1939, in Cassville, WV, a daughter of the late Fred and Nellie (Wallace) Hlad. Nellie was a graduate of University High School and Morgantown Business College. She retired from the Monongalia County Board of Education after 26 years of service. Nellie was a Catholic by faith and attended St. Ursula's Roman Catholic Church in Pursglove, WV, and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Star City, WV, while her health permitted. Nellie's greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she cherished. In her earlier years, she loved to travel and experience new adventures with them. Nellie also was very fond of her dogs and loved having them as part of her family. She enjoyed watching movies and playing games, and spent many hours playing bingo and cards. Nellie knew no strangers and made many friends who, along with her family, will forever remember her beautiful smile and warm, infectious laugh. Surviving are three sons, Kenneth Ray Miller II and wife Rebecca (Becky) of Westover, WV, David Allen Miller and wife Gail of Spring, TX, and Steven Michael Miller of Cassville, WV; three sisters, Shirley Ann Hlad of Cassville, WV, Dorothy Jane(Hlad) Ferrise of Morgantown, WV, and Mary Sue Hlad of Cassville, WV; two brothers, Fred Hlad Jr. of Wheeling, WV, and Alfred Hlad of Cassville, WV; two grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Miller of Spring, TX; two great aunts, Rose Hlad and Ann Chico of Morgantown, WV; cousin Louis Hlad of Morgantown; and two nieces and five nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Nicholas Miller; and sister, Pauline (Hlad) Murphy. Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. to conclude visitation. Visitation will continue a St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church from 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, with the Rev. John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Beverly Hills Chapel of Tranquility Mausoleum. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Assisted Living at Evergreen for their wonderful care and love for Nellie for the past 7 years and to the nurses and staff of 7 Northeast, 8 Northeast, and MICU of Ruby Memorial Hospital.
