Mikel Karl Lutman, aged 73, of Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Mike was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis more than a year ago, which was likely initiated by the COVID-19 vaccine.
Born on May 29, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, Mike was the son of William R. and Kathleen Lutman. At the age of three, his family relocated to Charleston, West Virginia, where he completed his primary and secondary education. He later moved to Morgantown to pursue higher education.
Mike earned a degree in Forestry and a Master’s degree in Hydrology, during which time he also worked as a whitewater rafting guide. He enjoyed a successful career as a Project Manager with various engineering firms and provided consultancy services to numerous small companies and business associates.
Dedicated to his community, Mike served for many years on the Greystone Homeowners Association Board and contributed actively to several committees. He and his wife, Katherine, shared a passion for building and renovating homes, collaborating on multiple projects over the years.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike loved fishing and also enjoyed golf, biking, kayaking, boating, and tennis. He was cherished as a devoted husband, a beloved son-in-law, a fun-loving uncle, and a caring brother and brother-in-law.
Mike is survived by his wife, Katherine L. Calvert Lutman; his sister, Diane (Bob) Barton of Florida; his mother-in-law, Thelma Calvert; and his brothers-in-law, Steve and Bobby Calvert, sister-in-law, Sharon Calvert, along with their families. He also leaves behind many friends, neighbors, and colleagues who hold him in high regard.
Mike Lutman’s life was marked by his commitment to family, community, and the great outdoors. He will be remembered fondly and missed deeply.
