Mary Ann Whetsell

February 18, 1948 — April 12, 2015

Mary Ann Whetsell won the courageous battle against cancer as she joined her Heavenly Father and gained a new body free of suffering. Mary Ann was born February 18, 1948 to the late Robert and Yolanda Jones. Mary Ann lived her life with the philosophy of helping others. She always put others needs before her own. After assisting in caring for her sick mother, Mary Ann decided to go to nursing school to continue caring for others. She was employed at Monongalia General Hospital for 27 years. During her employment she was honored as employee of the year and won a trip to Europe. After retiring, she spent her time travelling to all 50 states, Ireland, and Italy. She loved camping and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were her joy. She was an active member with the Goshen Baptist Church where she was instrumental in teaching the children the Gospel. Mary Ann felt the need to serve the Ridgedale Community and assisted in the partnership between Goshen Baptist Church and Ridgedale Elementary School. Through this partnership, Mary Ann was able to start the "Chargers To Go" program which provided a backpack with food for children in need. This partnership also assisted in providing Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts for the families at Ridgedale. Mary Ann went on to coordinate the expansion of the Meals on Wheels program to the Ridgedale and surrounding communities. She was also responsible for coordinating Goshen Baptist Church's involvement in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Mary Ann lived her life to serve others. The above is only a small glimpse of what she lived to do and what she accomplished. She knew the true meaning of being humble and never wanted to be in any spotlight or have anyone make a big deal of her accomplishments. Mary Ann is survived by her husband and best friend of 46 years, Clarence E. Whetsell, Jr. Her three children, Robert E. Whetsell, Douglas C. Whetsell and spouse Christy, and Cynthia Bolyard and spouse Gregory. Also surviving is her mother-in-law, Marie Whetsell; her "adopted" daughter Shelley Hose; aunt and dear friend, Shirley Smith; three grandchildren, Kyle and Jace Whetsell and Willow Bolyard; step-grandsonn Todd Bolyard. In addition, her brother Donald Jones and spouse Debbie; nieces Amy Jones and Nicki Reyes; God-daughters Holly and Heather Hose. Maryann lived her life to the fullest. She was and still is loved deeply by many people and will be missed more than anything, but, she would not want you to be sad, instead she would tell you to put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Be His light and go out in the world and shine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goshen Baptist Church, c/o Chargers To Go, 1070 Goshen Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508.
