Mary Helen Vasil

Mary Helen “Beba” Vasil, 89, of Cassville, died peacefully on Monday May 7,2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 22, 1929 in Pursglove the daughter of Croatian parents, the late Michael and Barbara (Verbonic) Milovich. She graduated from St Francis High School. After high school she was employed at Cowan’s Bakery. She later worked at Sterling Faucet until her retirement in 1979. Though retired, she kept busy by working part-time and once served as a postal clerk in the Cassville Post Office. Mary was very friendly and enjoyed talking with everyone who came to her home to visit or called. When she was able Mary made pepperoni, cabbage, and nut rolls for her family. She was particularly fond of children. Years ago, she worked with the Special Olympics.

Mary was a member of the former St Ursula’s Catholic Church and attended mass at St Mary Catholic Church. Her interests included spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, (mostly Pinnacle) and, bingo. Mary was content just sitting at the kitchen table wearing her glasses doing her fill-in word book with a pencil in one hand and a water bottle with a straw in the other. She enjoyed her visits to casinos until she was not able to move as well. Mary was an avid Mountaineer football and basketball fan. She enjoyed listening to polkas, classic country, going to ethnic picnics, and eating Polish dishes. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister.

Mary is survived by a son, James Vasil of Pawley’s Island, SC and companion, Rosanne Weaver; a daughter, Mary Jo Vasil Haines and husband John of Cassville, sisters Anna Woods, and Ilene Milovich, grandsons Roxy Joseph Vasil and Jerad Vasil, and a granddaughter, Jamee Vasil.

In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph, who passed in 2014, her sisters Eva Rabagia, Irene Milovich, Barbara who died in infancy, and a son, John Vasil.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Ruby Hospital for their compassion. A special thank you to the staff, therapists, nurses, and aides at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the numerous times they helped her to obtain wellness again.

Family and friends will be received at Fred L Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday May 11 from 4 to 8 pm. Visitation will continue at 10:00 a m on Saturday May 12 until time of services at 11am with Rev. Father Carlos L. Melocoton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.

Joe and Mary had lived and raised their family in the community of Cassville. The family requests that donations may be made to the Cassville Fire Department, 719 Mason Dixon Hwy. Morgantown, WV 26501.
