Mary Jane Keener Carr of Morgantown, WV passed away following a lengthy illness on Monday, December 3, 2012 at home. Mary was born December 9, 1927 to the late Perry Blaine Keener and Susan Jane (Susie) Keener of Braxton County, WV. She graduated from Gassaway High School in 1946. During her high school days Mary worked at Walker's Drug Store in Gassaway, WV. In 1946 she married Criss Carr, Jr. following his return from World War II. They have lived in Clarksburg, Grantsville, Flatwoods, and Morgantown WV. Over the years, Mary was very active in church work at Pleasant Hill United Methodist at Grantsville, Heaters United Methodist at Flatwoods and the Community United Methodist at Morgantown. In Grantsville she served as Secretary and then Chairwoman of the Farm Women's Club. She was also active in The Order of the Eastern Star of Grantsville #74. Criss and Mary belonged to the National Foxhunters Association and spent many hours participating and competing in foxhound dog shows. Mary is survived by her husband of 66 years, Criss Carr, Jr.; two sons Ralph Melvin (Martha) Carr of Darlington, SC and J. Keith (Carolyn) Carr of Morgantown. Grandchildren are Michael (CJ) Carr of Little Rock, SC; Mary (Shawn) Tunstall of Darlington, SC; Amy (John) Simpkins of Morgantown; Jonathan (Wendy) Carr of Bridgeport, WV; Jeffrey (Jessica) Carr of Morgantown; Carrie (Charlie) Hall of Morgantown. Great grandchildren include Ashley Tunstall, Nicholas Tunstall, Cristofer Carr, Josie Law, Anthony Carr, Allison Carr and Hallie Hall. Also surviving are sisters, Flora Ketterman of Moorefield, WV and Jo (Jerry) Hott of Gaithersburg, MD and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by sisters, Ellen Jackson, Ruby Rose, Gertrude Cunningham, Margaret Mick, Edna Christie and one brother Homer Keener. Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00am Wednesday December 5, 2012 with Rev. Dr. Gary Helms officiating. Burial will be at the family cemetery in Braxton County. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Community United Methodist Church, 1966 Grafton Road, Morgantown, WV 26508. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the congregations of the Community United Methodist Church and the Goshen Baptist Church for their endless displays of love. Sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, aides, and neighbors who have provided care and support during her lengthy illness. A very special thank you to her caregiver angel, Diane Trickett, for her extraordinary devotion to Mary.
