Mary Jane Barefoot

Mary Jane Lambert Barefoot, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Morgantown at the age of 74. Born in Newburg, West Virginia, on April 16, 1949, to Richard and Grace Poling Lambert, Mary grew to be a woman of unparalleled strength and compassion, embodying the qualities of kindness, gentleness, and selflessness throughout her extraordinary life.


A proud veteran of the US Army, she served her country with dedication, assuming the demanding roles of a prison guard and Military Police. Upon conclusion of her military service, Mary transitioned to the healthcare sector, providing private duty care with a gentle touch and working tirelessly at Sundale Nursing Home. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to ultimately co-own and operate Grace's Vineyard, a private care facility, with her beloved husband.


Mary is survived by her husband, Thomas Barefoot, Jr., her loving sons, Thomas C. Barefoot, of Jamaica, and Timothy W. Barefoot (Carie) of Morgantown, and her devoted daughter, Bettie Barefoot (Larry Johnson) of Morgantown. Also surviving are her sisters, Ruth and Janet,& brother Jack, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Kiona, Timmy, Jr., Mary, Beth, and Crystal, and her adored great-grandchildren, Emma, Bradford, Lilah, Brae, and Kaydence.


Preceding Mary in death were her parents, Richard and Grace Poling Lambert, her brother Larry, and her sister Patty.


A woman of faith, Mary upheld the teachings and community of the United Methodist Church. Education was a hallmark of her achievements, successfully obtaining a high school diploma followed by a degree in Business, which paved the way for her diverse and impactful career.


In moments of leisure, Mary found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved to travel, forming fond memories in South Carolina, Florida, and various parts of West Virginia. Whether it was engaging in a strategic game of Solitaire or becoming immersed in the latest Soap Opera, Mary savored each activity with enthusiasm.


Friends and family will gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 11 AM until the 1 PM departure for the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton where graveside honors will be conducted by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the WVANG, Camp Dawson, Kingwood.
