Marvin William
Fields
Jan 22, 1957 — Jul 5, 2026
Marvin William Fields, 69, of Morgantown, passed away at Sundale Nursing Home on Sunday, July 5, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with illness. He was born on January 22, 1957, in Morgantown, a son of the late John Alvin and Nevada June Field.
Marvin began his career as a mechanic at General Paving. After several years, he went to work for the City of Morgantown, where he spent the majority of his career as a mechanic, repairing and painting vehicles for the city. During this time, he also drove bus for the Morgantown Transit Authority. He was truly a jack of all trades and had an incredible ability to figure out how to fix just about anything.
In his spare time, Marvin cherished being outdoors. He especially loved fishing but also enjoyed mowing grass, gardening, soaking up the sunshine, and hunting. In his younger years, he loved riding his Harley, but as the years passed, he preferred taking day trips in his Corvette with his beloved wife. Above all, Marvin was a devoted family man who worked hard to provide for his family and treasured every moment spent with them.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patti Fields; his son, Patrick William Fields, and his fiancée, Mariah Monroe, all of Morgantown; his sisters, Patricia George of Martinsville, VA, and Sara Hanshew of Charleston, WV; his faithful beagle, Blake; his feline companions, Thomas and Frosti; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Lucille Stemple; his brothers-in-law, Tommy George and Bill Hanshew; his father- and mother-in-law, Rev. Elmo Gay Johnson and Georgia Burbridge Johnson; his brothers-in-law, George Sewash, Jr., and Jimmy Johnson; his sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Johnson Sewash, JoAnn Johnson, and B. Lynn Mathess Johnson; and his cherished feline companion of 16 years, Tippy.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mon Health Medical Center, Sundale Nursing Home, and WVU Medicine Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided to Marvin and his family throughout his illness.
In accordance with Marvin's wishes, all services will be private, and he will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
