Marshall Austin Thompson, 57, of Morgantown passed away unexpectedly on Monday July 24, 2017 at his home. He was born May 17, 1960 in Sonora, CA a son of the late Glenn and Mary Estalee Simpson Thompson.
Marshall joined the U.S. Army in 1985 and actively served until 1988. After his active duty he served in the U.S. Army Reserves until his retirement as Staff Sergeant in 2006 and was most recently assigned to the 300th Chemical Company based in Morgantown. During his military service, Marshall received many medals and decorations including the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Hourglass and with “M” Device, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2, and Army Service Ribbon.
He also was employed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals in the Security Department and later the Blending Department.
In his spare time, Marshall enjoyed fishing, spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his daughter Juana Baxter and husband Josh of Gibbon Glade, PA; son Austin Thompson and significant other Grace DeMasi of Morgantown; his two loving grandchildren Jaidan and Jacob Baxter; sisters Mary Thompson and Michele Chavez; a good friend and the mother of his children Trena Blaney; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Mitchel Thompson.
Honoring Marshall’s wishes cremation was arranged by Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home.
Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Tuesday August 1, 2017 from 12pm-2pm and 4pm-6pm with a memorial service beginning at 6pm with Pastor John Sommers officiating. Interment will be held Wednesday at 12pm at WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown, WV with Military rites conducted by the WVANG Honor Guard, Camp Dawson, Taylor County Honor Guard, and the 300th Chemical Company.
The procession to WV National Cemetery will be leaving the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, promptly, on Wednesday at 11am.
