Marion F. ‘Mary Ann’ Dove passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the Mon Health Medical Center. She was born March 31, 1930, in Morgantown a daughter to the late Thomas and Bessie Blankenship Dove.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Morgantown High School class of 1948 and quickly joined the workforce. She spent 35 years working for C&P Telephone, now Verizon as a telephone operator, and retired in 1983.
Mary Ann was always impeccably dressed and groomed and was very proud of how she walked to and from work from the top of Grand Street to Chestnut Street in high heels. She was also a meticulous housekeeper and enjoyed taking care of flowers both inside and outside the house. In her younger years, she enjoyed shopping and playing bingo. She also had a sweet tooth and enjoyed chocolates and cookies of any kind. She had a small but close group of friends. Mary Ann didn’t often mince words and had a routine she rarely deviated from. She lived a simple satisfying life. She was a long-time member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Clinton District Democratic Women’s Club.
Mary Ann is survived by Carye Blaney, whom she loved like a daughter, one sister, Jeannine Lee DiPietro and her husband Tony of Berkeley Springs, WV; a brother-in-law Lonnie Benson of Morgantown; special neighbor, Vera Younger, who would look in on her from time to time; good friend and a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Mary Porter, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas Gene Dove and Billy Dove; three sisters: Marlene Little, Verna Louise Benson, and Zelda Leona Krivak; and a good friend and former telephone operator Shirley Gregurick.
Special thanks to her nurses, Kim and Regina, and her aid Megan of Amedisys Health Care for their compassionate care over the years; Holly Gibson and Angie Patrick from Village Caregiving for seeing to her daily needs and giving her dignity in the twilight of her life.
Cremation services have been arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021, from 2 PM until 4 PM. Her ashes will be interred with her parents in a private service at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
