M. Evelyn Day Vannoy, 94, of Morgantown passed away Monday May 16, 2011 at The Madison Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was formerly a lifelong resident of the Riverside area of Westover. She was the eldest daughter of the late John Lloyd Day and Parelee Kite Day Avis. She was born in Coalwood, WV on June 25, 1916. She is survived by her sister Veiata Day Johnson of Gibsonia, PA; her children Phyllis Spiker and husband James of Lexington, KY, Kathryn Hose and husband George of Star City, Charles Vannoy and wife Gloria of Powder Springs, GA, Ronald Vannoy and wife Deloris of Nutter Fort, and Karen Sickles of Morgantown. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an avid quilter, seamstress, and loved crafting. At one time she and her husband had a ceramic hobby shop. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling and camping. She was a lifetime member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Faithful Workers and the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the West Side Community Education, Outreach Service Club, the Fairheights Garden Club, and the WVU Extension Quilt Club. She worked in the fabric and drapery departments at Montgomery Wards on High St. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Roy E. Vannoy and brothers Nathan Day and Donald Day. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Thursday May 19, 2011 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm and again on Friday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Rev. Betty H. McBee officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank all of the staff at The Madison Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for all of their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Evelyn's memory to the Riverside United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
