Loriann Sonntag

Loriann Sonntag, 49, of Morgantown was called to her Savior on Sunday March 1, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Lori Ann Pingel on June 23, 1965 in Chilton, WI, she was a 1983 graduate of Manitowoc (WI) Lutheran High School and a 2003 graduate of Southwest Minnesota State University (Marshall) with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Loriann also held a Master's Degree in Psychology, Master's Degree in Social Work, as well as a Graduate Gerontology Certificate, all earned from WVU. She was program coordinator at the Alzheimer's Association in Morgantown, WV, and an adjunct professor with the School of Social Work at WVU. Previously she was a social worker at Visiting Homemaker Service, volunteered with numerous organizations including WV Family Grief Center, and developed and conducted several courses and trainings in the field. Her life and work have left and significant legacy. Deeply loved by family, clients, students, and colleagues, she received the Anita S. Harbert Award in 2014 for her contributions to the field of aging in WV. As noted by a colleague, "Loriann's strength, dedications, and love of life combine to make her an exceptional social worker". She is survived by her husband of 25 years, married 4/8/1989, Scott; three beautiful daughters Crystal, Caitlyn, Cirsten all of Morgantown; her parents Eugene and Sharon Pingel of Forest Junction, WI; and a sister Lisa Kiesow of St. Nazienz, WI. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and cousins Jason Drozd and Dawn Pike. In honoring Loriann's wishes cremation services have been provided by Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday March 15, 2015 at Chestnut Ridge Church 2223 Cheat Road Morgantown WV, 26508 from 2pm until the time of memorial services at 6pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sonntag family 668 Elysian Ave. Morgantown, WV 26501.
