Lonnie L. Hartman, Sr., 90, of Morgantown, went home to be with his loving wife in glory at 7:20 Friday morning June 3, 2016 at his home with family by his side. He was born December 14, 1925 in Morgantown to George Fredrick Charles Hartman and Myrtle Sarah Cunningham Hartman. He was a member of Mount Morris Gospel Tabernacle.

In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, for which he was very proud. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at the end of his service. In 1950, he was called back to the Marines at the outbreak of the Korean Conflict and served until his release from active duty in 1951, attaining the rank of Corporal.

Lonnie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a very hard worker who spent more than 39 years working in the construction field. In Morgantown he worked as a laborer and many times as a boss on various University projects. In 1968, at the request of the construction company he worked for at the time, Allen Brothers and O’Hara, he moved his family to Rochester, NY where he worked for them as a foreman. Later he worked construction for Horchec and Haden as a labor foreman, and then working for Bell Construction as a labor steward on the railroad until his retirement in 1988 at which time he and his wife moved back to Morgantown. He enjoyed his retirement for 28 years.

Surviving are his children Shirley Wagner, Lonnie L. (Butch) Hartman, Jr. and wife Veronica, William (Fred) Hartman and wife Misty, Brenda L. Hartman all of Morgantown, and Gloria Stout of Mount Morris, PA. He has 11 grandchildren, seven grandsons, four granddaughters, and also 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Wanda May Hunt Hartman; parents George Fredrick Charles Hartman and Myrtle Sarah Cunningham Hartman; two brothers, two sisters, one step-brother, and one step-sister.

Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Sunday June 5, 2016 from 4pm-8pm and again on Monday from 10am until the time of funeral service at 11am with Pastor John Jackson and Lonnie’s grandson John Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with military honors.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Zimmerman, Shelly, Diedre, Drew, and Cassie at Ruby Memorial Hospital, and also to Jack, Nancy (Toots), Kevin, Sandy, Kathleen, and Tia with Hospice Care Corp. for all of their care and support.
