Lois "Jean" Spicer passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24th, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 4, 1936, in Core, a daughter of the late Jesse Eddy and Sylvia Yost Eddy. Jean married Jack Spicer on January 25, 1965, and celebrated 19 years of marriage until his untimely death in 1984.
She was the beloved matriarch of the Eddy family and cherished by all. Being from a family of 19, Jean learned resilience at an early age and helped care for her younger siblings. She took great pride in her family and cooking. Jean was an avid listener of country music and loved looking at cookbooks to find the next great dessert to make.
Her favorite moments were spent at the family Homeplace, where she gathered every Sunday with her siblings and extended family to share stories, laughter, and love. Her presence will be deeply missed at every gathering, holiday, and beyond.
Jean worked in the cafeteria at Ruby Memorial Hospital for many years until retirement in 2004.
She is survived by her son, Jobe (Jill), and daughter, Laura Hunter (Tim); her grandchildren, Brandon, Anthony (Casey), and Logan (Sara); great-grandchildren Zoey, Brantley, Bexley, Aliyah, Ryan, and Jack. Jean is also survived by her sisters, Nancy (Jim), Annabel (Delmas), Sara, Blanche (Maxey) and brothers Albert and Ronnie (Pam), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jean in death are her husband Jack, her brothers, Harlan, Otis, Robert, Roy, Harry, Garry, and Mark Eddy; and by sisters, Delores Eddy, Dorothy Wise, Betty Bowser and Pauline Wright, brothers and sisters-in-law, Vaughn Wright, Midge Eddy, Shirley Eddy, Dorothy Eddy, Mary Jo Eddy, Norma Eddy, Carl Wise, Betty Ann Eddy, and Wade Bowser.
Friends and family will gather at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 South High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 from 10 AM until services at 12 PM with Douglas Stull officiating. She will rest with her beloved Jack at Olive Cemetery.
