Lila Mary Croston, 87, of Wilson Ave. Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born in Warren, OH, on October, 17, 1928, daughter to the late John R. and Frances Almedia Lauth Robison.
Lila grew up in Southington, OH and graduated from Chalker High School where she was the Drum Major of the band and played the viola during the depression years.
Lila worked as a seamstress out of her home for many years. She was well known throughout Morgantown for her craft. Many homes, businesses and even local high schools, still to this day, are using window treatments, bedspreads and many other items that were sewn by Lila.
In addition to her meticulous hand sewn articles, Lila was also a gifted gardener. So much so, that she and her husband were featured in the local paper for their bountiful harvest. Other hobbies included beading, crocheting, bowling, making jewelry and other various crafts. She was also known as the ‘family photographer.’ Even though she kept very busy, she managed to spend quality time and helped raise her grandchildren, who were so important to her. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Croston of Morgantown and Luanna Croston of Reedsville; two sons, John W. (Rhonda) Croston, Sr., of Core, WV and Jason O. (Gina) Croston of Morgantown; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Robison and Joseph (Angie) Robison of Florida.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, William C. ‘Bill’ Croston; one daughter, Debby Croston; grandson Joshua Scotchel one son William Croston, Jr.; one sister Bernice Lehto and four brothers, Blockey, Fred, Leo and John ‘Jack’ Robison.
Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday March, 30, 2016 from 2pm until time of services at 6pm with Rev. David Spence officiating. Cremation will follow. Lila’s ashes will be interred beside her husband at a later date.
The family suggests donations can be made to the Senior Monongalians Lighthouse Program, PO Box 653, Morgantown, WV 26507.
