Lewis Butler Whiting, Jr., 73, passed away on January 8, 2014 at the WVU Medical Center in Morgantown, WV. He was born on August 3, 1940 in Baltimore, MD. Lewis married Janice Kay White Whiting in 1990 in Palm Beach, FL. They were happily married for 23 years and resided in Okeechobee, FL and White Sulphur Springs, WV. Lewis grew up on Ellerslie Farm in Catonsville, MD. He attended McDonough Military Academy in Baltimore, MD and Augusta Military Academy in Staunton, VA. After high school he: attended Baltimore College in Baltimore, MD where he received a degree in X-Ray Technology and graduated Phi Theta Kappa attended Palm Beach Community College in Palm Beach, FL and graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy where he served as Class President Lewis's career history and experiences included: Owner/operator of Whiting Cattle Co, Stewartstown, PA; cattle, hogs and agriculture; past president of Young Cattlemen's Association, York County, PA Administrator, Dept. of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine for St. Joseph's Hospital, Towson, MD Manufacturer's representative for GB Stump & Associates, Baltimore, MD Owner/operator of LB Whiting, Inc. Contracting Service and Marine Salvage Construction Administrator, VVKR Incorporated Owner/operator of Palm Beach Charter "Stella Maris" General Manager, Murrelle Marine, Lantana, FL Captain, Marine Unit for City of Lantana, FL Police Dept. His accreditations and accomplishments were many: NRA Certified Range Safety Officer, Firearms Instructor FDLE, FL Certified Law Enforcement Trainer, FL Teacher's Certification, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, US Merchant Marine Master's Certificate Lewis was a member of: NRA (Life), NRA Whittington Center (Life), NRA Whittington Center Founders Club, Gun Owners of America (Life), Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (Life), Safari Club International (Life), Greenbrier Sporting Club in WV (Resident), Indian Hammock Hunt & Riding Club in Okeechobee, FL (Resident), Quail Creek Plantation Sporting Clays & Hunting in FL, Baltimore Country Club in MD An avid outdoor enthusiast, Lewis enjoyed shotgun sports, rifle/pistol sports, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, hiking and traveling. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Lewis B. Whiting, Sr. and Kathryn Ahern Ford Whiting, two brothers, George Armistead Whiting and David Ford Whiting, his sister, Suzanne Lewis Whiting Evans, and his dear aunt, Betty Washington Whiting. He is survived by his adoring wife, Janice, of Okeechobee, FL and White Sulphur Springs, WV; son Key Lawrence Whiting of MD; son Lewis Butler Whiting III and wife, Martine, of Lexington, SC; step daughter Heather Roberts of Vero Beach, FL; step son Thomas Roberts, Jr of Sanford, FL; and grandchildren, Madeline, Sean, Key, George (and their mother Courtnaye), Megan, Austin, Isaac, Isabella and Parker. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1st at the Lewis B. Whiting Rifle/Pistol Range in Indian Hammock Hunt & Riding Club, Okeechobee, FL, and also on March 1st at 3:00 PM at the Whiting residence in the Greenbrier Sporting Club, White Sulphur Springs, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center PO Box 9300, Morgantown, WV 26506-9300 or the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org
