Jesus came on October 13, 2009, and took Leonard F. "Pete" Summers to be with his wife, Dewilla Dean Summers after a courageous battle with COPD. Leonard was born on May 23, 1934 in Morgantown, WV. He was the son of the late Wilbert and Ella Harris Summers. Pete passed peacefully at his home on the Kingwood Pike surrounded by family and friends. Pete will be sadly and forever missed by his four loving and caring daughters Glenna Shaw and husband William "Dob" , Donna Haseleu and husband Charles "Chuck", Rhonda Fichtner, and Sherri Dalton and husband Darrin all of Morgantown. Pappy Pete will also be missed and forever remembered by his grandchildren Terry Haseleu and wife Anna of Morgantown and Deanna Dalton and husband Jason of Reedsville; also great grandchildren who loved and will remember their pappy forever, Kayla, Dyllan and Abby Haseleu and Chance Lee Dalton. Pete loved and enjoyed spending time with his family. Pete's hi-light of every evening was watching The Wheel of Fortune with his daughters. Another passion Pete had was watching NASCAR with friends and family. He is survived by four loving sisters Laura "Pooch" White and husband Bill of Kingwood, WV, Mary Murray and husband Charles of Beuna Park, CA, Rosa Gibson and husband Edward of Masontown, WV, Jean Beardslee and husband Bill of Kingwood, WV, brother-in-law Joe McMillen of Morgantown, WV and a brother Walter "Jack" Summers of Morgantown, WV who was also his very best friend. Pete cherished the time spent with his sister Mary from Beuna Park, CA last week when she came to visit and help care for him. Pete is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. While Pete was blessed with many great friends and neighbors, Curtis and Leona Dalton and Okey and Barb Dalton were more than friends, he thought of them as family. Pete joined the Operative Plaster's and Cement Mason Local 711 Union in 1953 and retired in 1995. He donated many hours in building the Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department and also served as the Assistant Fire Chief for a short period of time. He was an honorary member of the Northern West Virginia Beagle Club where he enjoyed running his rabbit dog and chatting with his buddies until his health declined. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Donald Laughlin and his wife, Patsy and his sister Helen McMillen. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 from 5-9pm. Pete will lie in repose on Thursday at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church from 3pm until the time of services at 11am Friday with Rev. Elmer Nicholson and Pastor Marshall Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
